I’m pumped to have made a full lap with this project. I’ve seen a lot of great feedback and some decent subscriber numbers after 52 straight weeks of posting. Some weeks are better than others, and if you just joined recently, I encourage you to read the top 5 posts of year 1 below

I’m not sure if I’m funny, I crack myself up and that’s enough for me. I had an interesting year. I started a new job after the last company I worked at literally imploded overnight in 2023. Which was equally as hilarious as it was a bummer. My dog died, I choked in the Club Championship, I finally got out of my nightmare Jeep that I wasted thousands of dollars and two years on. The Cowboys sucked, the Buckeyes went on the best run of all time. Our picks went over 74% on the season.

My goal was to just write something every week, not care about the numbers, and provide myself an outlet to compartmentalize my weeks. I had no KPI’s for success, no intention of tracking and spent $0 making this column in the last year. I’ve achieved the simple goal of writing every week, and that’s been fun enough for me.

I expect the next year to include some more personal triumphs and tribulations, and a lot of chaos due to some changing personal circumstances, that should be a lot of fun.

This week I’m completely entrenched in the 4 Nations Tournament. If you live under a rock and haven’t watched I’m sorry.

This tournament is the best thing that ever happened to Hockey. There are natural rivalries, and I hope that the NHL adds a few more countries in to make this an annual tradition. It is so fun to root for the USA in these events. The players really give a shit, and the games show that. It’s more than an all star game, and Thursday nights Championship will be an iconic showdown between the US and Canada.

What’s the best way forward for this tournament? Maybe 8 countries in Single Elimination tournament? Play it at Marlborough like a youth hockey tournament? I’m not sure. But getting USA vs Canada annually should be a goal for the NHL, and judging by the astronomical ticket prices to just get into the balcony on Thursday, the fans are demanding more.

I think there should at least be a 3 game USA vs Canada series every year. The Players would love it, and fans would enjoy it even more. Soccer does a similar event with the COPA, and the bragging rights between the teams would serve as excellent build up for the Olympics during off years. I’m all for it, you should be too.

Switching over to Golf, Ludvig Aberg has arrived and even though he is a beautiful man, his swing is what is going to take him to the highest tier of golf. He just off the lead going into Sunday, had a few competitors out in front of him during his back nine and had to chase up to -12 to win the tournament, and his robotic approach to the game had him so locked in I’m not sure how many beers he had to drink Sunday night to come back to earth. His sequence on 18 of hitting a 7 wood 230 to the back edge of the green, a decent lag putt, and then a center cup birdie putt to win was like a video game. There was no external, just him in the game. He is going to win so many golf tournaments in the next decade, and I like him to win a Major this year as well.

In that vein, I watched a portion of all 3 TGL matches yesterday. They were finally what had been promised out of the event. The first match had a walk off in the chip off that had a final 5 hole stretch that was legitimately interesting and dramatic, capped off with Justin Thomas chipping in to send the match to OT, Tommy Fleetwood holing out to extend the OT, and Patrick Cantlay stuffing a wedge to win the match during the next round. The TGL is only going to improve, and as more golfers get involved it’s only going to get more competitive and more entertaining. If you haven’t tuned in yet, there is another match tonight, featuring Jupiter which is Tiger’s team, and the playoff chase is heating up. Check it out.

That’s it for this week, thank you for joining me for the last year and going forward we are going to have a lot of fun. Only 5 weeks til golf season, hang in there folks.

Til next week
