Tully Tuesdays Vol 14. Don't buy a Jeep
Let’s start out with a PSA. Do not buy a Jeep Wrangler 4XE. I am in the final stages of being refunded for the Sahara I bought in 2022, as the hybrid system for all intents and purposes failed. I’ve had the luxury of 4 loaner cars, the first being a Dodge Charger, which was sweet, but I had guys waiving me into races on 93 daily. The next was a Challenger, equally as daunting, but I found myself appreciating the speed. That was followed by a brief stint in a Chrysler Pacifica, which doesn’t quite fit my needs as someone with no Soccer practices to drive uber to. Finally I was given a Jeep Cherokee to drive and I drove that for 4 months. This week I decided that since that car’s inspection sticker expired in February, I might need to take it up and get it inspected.
As only Irony would serve me, I was given hopefully my final rental, a 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4XE. 8k miles, Rubicon, real great looking car, and finally up to the contracted standard of Equal or Superior value to my Jeep. And guess what. I get right onto 93 and see a familiar sight, “SERVICE HYBRID ENGINE SYSTEM.” I couldn’t help but laugh. This a brand new “improved” version of my tragic vehicle, and before I could make it to Chick Fil A for a Spicy Chicken Hash Brown Scramble. Don’t BUY THIS CAR.
So that leads me into my next vehicle chapter, once I get my refund I am full on in the market for a Midsize SUV. DISCLAIMER, if you are JEEP and want to gift me a new car I will be willing to take it and give you a fair shot again, until then you are the problem.
So far I’ve driven the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas CrossSport, and I plan on driving the Honda Pilot and Passport. I have some pause on the Passport as there’s a new body style coming next year and that would tank my resale value.
Of course, I’d love to get the New 4Runner or a Land Cruiser but the fall launch dates do not work with my timeline unfortunately.
My wildcard is a Toyota Tacoma, the new ones are sweet but I am concerned about having my golf clubs and gear in the truck bed. Any truck owners with suggestions? I am also not tall and very aware of any compensation jokes that may come my way and those are not my favorite. I am open to any and all suggestions if you have or like any of the MidSize SUVS, please let me know.
Moving away from Cars.
The NFL Schedule was released and it puts me in a real bind. Every year we take a trip to Dallas for a Cowboys game, but this year the home schedule kind of sucks. There are some premier games, Ravens, Lions, Texans, Bengals, Eagles at home. We like to plan these trips around a potential easy victory and this year’s schedule does not host many of those during good weekends for the personal schedule.

The home games don’t present a lot of opportunities for a stress free football weekend. I would love the Falcons, Panthers, or Steelers at home but this is what I’m stuck with.
My order of preference would be Eagles on 11/10 and Giants on Thanksgiving which I’ve never done and would be an awesome experience especially because the Giants are in fact bad and getting worse.
Bucs on 12/22 is tempting and Washington at home is always a treat but I’m not sure I want to see Trey Lance and the B squad play a meaningless game.
I think the final decision will come down to those two, particuarly because the Bengals and Texans are both toss up games and even worse they are on Monday Night Football, which travelling then eats up two work days, not an option. #Grind #Mindset #CloserMentality.
My vote is for Eagles, with work to do to convince family that Thanksgiving dinner at AT&T is the best possible option, and that seems like a losing prophecy.
Back next week with the findings from our LockedIN baseball metrics and starting to look at the summer and reflect on 28 laps around the sun.
Til next week
