Tully Tuesday's Volume #70, Beach, Sox, and Kobayashi

Yeah, I took a vacation, I said at the beginning of the year my goal was to only miss the week my child was born and July 4th. That’s it for the year, you’re stuck with me in your inbox until next July 4th.

I had a great trip down to Bethany Beach, Delaware to celebrate 46 years of the Tully Family making the trip. It was my first time going with a family of my own, and vacation with an infant is definitely different than without. The first two days of the trip we played golf to set me up for 4 days with nothing but Baby time. I loved it, there’s so many little parts of the day with a baby that I don’t get to be a part of while I’m at work. I got to be there for every smile after a nap or a bottle, every giggle on the playmat, and every sleepy afternoon in my arms when she was tired. It wasn’t the beach vacation I’ve grown accustomed to, but it was the best of my 29 July 4th trips down to the beach. I had a very funny realization when we were driving out on Sunday morning, that it was the first time my “family” was leaving rather than just myself and my brother or my parents driving with a movie on in the back. It was a very special week and very cool to be a family of 3 down the beach enjoying each other’s company, not to mention spending time with the other 25+ family members at the house during our trip.

Random Thoughts for July

  • I don’t get how Alex Bregman can be an All Star, sure he was playing well but he hasn’t played in a month plus? Baseball is so weird like that. Doesn’t make sense. Kind of diminishes the accomplishment of my MLB The Show Road to the Show Player who made 18 straight ASG’s. Hate that for my guy Dukes Mayo

Shout out Dukes. MLB All Time Leader in Home Runs. Handsome Guy too.

  • We are staying at my parents house due to some flooding in our Apartment. I can’t tell you how much better life is when you can just change the channel to the Red Sox. I can’t fathom paying for Comcast Cable, and really love YouTube TV. But not having NESN is such a pain in the ass. I don’t get why they would rather force feed a streaming app that doesn’t work than make the channel widely available. If it’s money that’s no surprise but there’s no way more people are watching NESN now than if they were on YouTube TV.

  • There needs to be more Primo Hoagie locations, particularly in New England. It’s by far the best Chain Sandwich shop and I won’t hear any arguments for other establishments. I let Mike turn off the body cam and make me a #7 multiple times a month but nothing sniffs what they are slinging at Primo Hoagie. Chicopee is the only one north of Albany, that needs to change.

Best Game I watched this week

I didn’t get to watch a lot of Sports on vacation, but I did catch the playoff last Sunday at the John Deere. I had a ticket in for Greyserman at +800 I was rooting for, and when he had the birdie look on 18 I thought it was in the bag. He missed a couple really good chances early in the playoff, and when you miss one or two, it usually means its not your day. Good for Poltgeier to get a victory but Mad Max was due and needed to cash in. Hoping he continues to play well. Good to See Max Homa playing well again too this past weekend. Hope he can make some noise at the Open Championship

Best Show I’ve Watched this Week

I’m late to the party on this one, but I’ve been watching Detroiters the past week, as a big fan of Tim Robinson’s work I figured I’d like it, and it’s so damn funny while being maybe the stupidest show of all time at the same time. Tim and Sam have great chemistry and they lean into stupider and stupider bits. Episodes are quick and it’s a very easy watch.

Nostalgic Athlete of the Week

Joey Chesnut is undoubtedly the GOAT of the Competitive Eating world, but nobody had eyes on them like Takeru Kobayashi. A true legend with a legendary name to remember. He was a cultural icon that time may forget because of the dominance Chesnut has risen too.
