Tully Tuesday's Volume #69

6/24

  • First off I want to share with you this link, Donate to The Gregg Bonheur ALS Fundraiser in honor of Gregg’s 64th Birthday. Gregg is a 5x Club Champion at Andover, a decorated golfer, veteran, and mentor of mine. He is a competitor that would really test your game and would always offer some advice or help after the round. He has been battling with ALS for a few years, and today there will be an Ice Bucket Challenge at ACC this evening to celebrate his fight against the disease, if you are looking for a cause to throw some parlay winnings towards, tell them Tully Tuesday’s sent you, I’m certain it would be appreciated.

  • I know you’re dying for an update, I’m close to perfecting my tortillas. Round 2 was a lot more tortilla than pancake. I’d say I’m 2 shots back going into the back nine right now.

  • I’m a big Keegan Bradley fan but I do feel bad for Tommy Fleetwood. It’s crazy how winning in the past is the biggest advantage you can have in a golf tournament. Keegan has that experience, and was able to gauge his adrenaline correctly on that final wedge and putt. Tommy was not and tried to go with less club and that really smoked him. With a short iron he’s gotta just choke down a little and hit one of his patented punch cuts and let it rip back down to the hole. Hate to see it, as a fellow 2nd place guy, it hurt to watch. Keegan should play in the Ryder Cup and bring Tiger along to manage the ropes, but I think he could handle both roles.

  • The NBA Finals was a great 7 game series but the celebration is always so weird compared to the Stanley Cup. The Thunder looked like your shitty company at the end of an all hands meeting where your boss you can’t stand says let’s take a break and you pop up to go talk some shit with your co-workers. The Panthers looked like they had just won their first game.

  • Speaking of the Panthers, Marchand is on a generational celebration run right now

It sucks that this wasn’t in Boston, but the Bruins had their chances, he was the only guy to show up in a couple of those series. Florida Hockey just feels so fake that it doesn’t really bother me that he won it with them. Happy he’s getting his shine.

Best Game I watched this week

I went to the Travelers on Saturday, with my wife and our friends. It was a blast, but goddamn it was hot. I made the rookie mistake of going Under Armour golf shirt, thinking it was my best hope at sweat retention. I was quite wrong, as I had a puddle the size of my child on my back all day. After a few hours of exploring we ended up in a primo spot at a picnic table with an umbrella in the stadium area between 16 and 17, you can see 3 holes from that point and we had some shade. Highly recommmend the trip if you have the weekend free next year. Quick 2 hours no traffic both ways, and we stopped at Neko’s of New York for some Pizza on the way home. One of my favorite spots and he moved the shop to Grafton, which I will rarely ever cross, so we stopped in and my buddy and I eat took down a 14 inch pizza, well earned after hiking across TPC all day. Backup shirt in the trunk put in some great innings after the tournament, always a must.

Podcast Episode of the Week

Really interesting look into how the brain works and how the decisions you make impact your brain and body long term. I’m not super into this line of work, but when a good episode finds its way into my algorithm I typically enjoy, this was a good one.

Best Show I’ve Watched this Week

Bad Thoughts is a wild ride, and there’s some pretty fun Tom Segura tropes (S/O Garth) that pop up in episodes. It’s light but dark, funny but off-putting, very good late night toss on. There’s a lot of fun cameos too, and a wild scene with AJ Soprano that is hard to explain other than just suggesting you watch and form your own opinions.

Nostalgic Athlete of the Week

JD Drew anybody?

Maybe one of the biggest perception swings in Red Sox History, went from being dogged as one of the worst contract/overrated guys into absolute lore, the above Grand Slam was the moment of his career, and although his time in Boston is short compared to his other stops, he made a hell of an impact as was integral to getting that ring in 07.
