Weekly Recap

1. I lost in the Elite 8 of our club’s fourball tournament. Sometimes a guy getting 10 shots shoots 81 and makes every putt. Tip of the cap. What are you going to do. I played as well as I’ve ever played in a 3 day stretch. I was two putts from breaking 70 on Friday. Missed a 4 foot birdie on both the 1st hole and 9th hole, which were our 10th and 18th holes as a group. I was -3 when we won our match on 15 the next day getting some revenge on a pair of guys who have had my number over the years. Sunday I shot -2 on the front and we were only 1 up at the turn. Let a birdie get away from at 10 that we needed, ended up winning or tying every hole we didn’t give a stroke on and lost 3 of the 10 strokes holes to lose on 18 with a 5-4 tying my partner and I with pars.
   
   I love competitive golf, particularly when the stakes are about more than money. I want to win one of these tournaments so bad, and I wish we had more Gross tournaments that were simply just golf.
   
   Too many times, I have run into a high handicapper on his best day and lost despite playing about as well as I can, it’s a bummer but the competition is the best thing in the world. Reminds me of Little League Baseball or youth football, even High School Golf didn’t have the same feel.
   

2. I have decided that going forward I am going to find a high double-digit handicap to play with in these tournaments. I am going to make par or better most holes at Andover, and if I can get 5 or 6 par/net birdies out of a partner I think we would be near impossible to beat. I have also decided that I will be playing in our Mixed Team Championship, and I am in search of a ringer women’s player to partner up with, got to see the ball go through the hoop here sometime.

3. I got a new golf bag for my birthday, it’s gorgeous. I was born on Memorial Day so I’m always a sucker for some special Stars and Stripes Gear.

It’s gorgeous. I wanted to get a logo on the ball pocket but Titleist won’t embroider on that material. I ended up ordering some Fabric Patches that I am going to use some Girl Scout badge tape to do it up. I got a nice T5 Emblem made and a Cowboys Star. Debating either Dancing Bears or Buckeye Leaves on the side pocket. Will update. Hopefully it won’t look dumb. Very well could.

4. Just remembered the Cowboys traded for George Pickens and it made the loss feel better to me.

5. I miss football

6. My wife got me a bunch of Del Campo Socks for my birthday, and I am obsessed, just ordered another pack as well. They are so comfortable, and the styles are pretty sweet too. Also got some sweet hats from DeadHeadGolf -on Etsy, not a paid ad but he sent a couple extras to thank us for support. If you like the Dead, there’s some sweet gear on there.

7. I’ve just been hooked on playing pop punk songs like country songs on guitar lately. Been ripping some All American Rejects and Blink at home and really like how they sound, easy set list adds.

8. I woke up with a 3 inch cut on my palm, no idea how it got there.

9. My dad, brother and I are going to Vegas for Cowboys Raiders in November. I’m bummed its Monday Night Football, but I think a Saturday round of Golf, Sunday NFL at the Sportsbook, Monday Golf, and MNF is gonna be pretty sweet. Zac Brown teased that they were going to be at the Sphere towards the end of the year. I can only pray. That’s the dream.

10. SnackWrap is back July 10th. Can’t wait to get one and stuff some fries in there. 10 year old Tim loved him so snack wraps. Hope it forces Wendy’s to bring theirs back. Not a huge fast food guy other than Chick Fil A, much more of a Fast Casual like Five Guys, Chipotle, Sweetgreen.

Best Game I watched this week

Once again not a game, but I watched a good bit of the Longest Day in Golf yesterday. One of the best days of the year, with Dentists and Lawyers competing against Legit PGA Tour Competitors for the chance to play in the US Open. There were 9 sites for a total of around 25 spots. My Guy Zac Blair stuffed one to win a playoff, Cam Young birdied to beat Rickie, Max Homa, Eric Cole, and two amateurs. It’s so inspiring to watch guys achieve their dream of qualifying. I was on the verge of tears multiple times. This one got me good.

Golf is so hard, and it was humbling to have come off maybe the best golf of my life and then see these regular joes firing 6 or 7 red under ridiculous stress and conditions. It is so hard to make it in golf, but there’s so much to play for.

Podcast Episode of the Week

Not a podcast, but I was eating up all of The Rehearsal aftermath. Nathan is just the best. I could watch him on talk shows all day.

Best Show I’ve Watched this Week

Surviving BlackHawk down was an awesome look into one of the craziest events in the last half century in American Military History. I have seen the movie, but the re-enactments and the confessionals with the real soldiers involved as well as some of the Somalians was a really interesting look into a story I thought I knew. Pretty quick 3 episode mini-series, give it a watch.

Nostalgic Athlete of the Week

In honor of the guy who beat me being a big Steelers fan, I’ll dip into the Black and Yellow tank here. How bout some Antwaan Randel El?
