Random Thoughts for May

Been a while since we did a random thought so let’s run it back here

• New Look to the Newsletter this week, let me know what you think!

• Summer starts this week with Memorial Day Weekend. I don’t care about the Solstice or whatever. Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day is when Summer runs. White shorts all weekend. Wish the Weather would agree with me this week.

• The All American Rejects are doing a House Party Tour which rocks. What a great idea to get some viral buzz and put themselves back on the map. Our Middle School era Music rocked

• I’ve lost about 18 pounds since the Start of April. Haven’t been doing too much other than not having sandwiches at lunch and having a protein shake mixed with my coffee in the morning.

• I have started drinking Phil Mickelson’s For Wellness Coffee add in. I throw a scoop in my coffee and mix in a protein shake and that keeps me full til about 2 or 3 every day. I have noticed a nice clarity in the morning that balances out the caffeine nicely. The biggest thing I have noticed is that my hair and nails have been growing ridiculously fast in the last 2 months. I saw some pictures from a wedding last month and my bald spot was much harder to find that at the last wedding I went to, which is pretty sweet. Not sure if its correlated but I’ve noticed a pretty decent improvement in that regard.

• Traded in my StratoCaster for a new Acoustic with some electronics on it. Definitely not the fanciest guitar but it sounds great and I can play it at home without making too much noise. Love throwing my headphones in and jamming out. I love when I can find something that hooks me like this guitar has. I love playing to the baby and making her smile, and I love with guitar that I can track my progress against videos from the last 4 or 5 years that I’ve been playing

• I suck at Golf right now. I played in a tournament Saturday that was front nine with Hickory clubs, back nine with your regular clubs, and I think I was considerably better with the hickories. That’s a huge issue. I hit some balls the other day after my fourth pretty terrible round in a row and think I got it figured out. Updates to follow.

• In that pursuit of figuring my shit out I read Dave Pelz Putting Bible. Dave died this year, and I saw the book pop up on iBooks so I checked it out. I read 150 pages the first time I opened it on the app. Really awesome insights and a great way to simplify a very complex part of Golf. I’m hoping the help will show up soon.

• American Idol ended weird. I felt like the Best Two Artists were voted out in the round before the finale and it felt pretty forced. That being said, they brought out Good Charlotte and that rocked

• Survivor ends Wednesday as well. We are about to hit the summer TV lull hard. Baseball and Modern Family Re-runs staring us right in the face. I watched the NCAA Women’s Golf National Championship Last Night. Some awesome swings in there

• My Baby is 3 months on Thursday and that makes me sad and also very happy at the same time. Being a parent is an odd but incredible experience. She is crushing some sleep at night and my brain is starting to work again.

Best Game I watched this week

There were two Game 7s that should’ve been the pick here. Both absolutely sucked. The Thunder pounded the Nuggets and the Panthers dismantled the Leafs. Bruins will take that first round pick happily, now it’s time to root against the Panthers again. I hope Edmonton wins the Cup. Dallas would be fine with me too but I feel like teams rarely win two Championships in one year, so I have no interest in burning any Cowboys mojo on the Stars.

Instead, let me use this space to remind you that last week I reminded you about a tall goofy guy from Dallas who was gonna win the PGA Championship. He did. It was easy. Scottie is such a robot, even when Rahm tied it there was very little doubt how that tournament was going to end. The whole ending and Bennett Scheffler experience was amazing and the most interesting part of the final hour or two

Podcast Episode of the Week

Jon Sherman is a great golf mind and this bit on how to practice is something everyone should give a try. How many times do you end up just blasting balls at the range and finish in a full sweat? That’s fun and feels good but that’s not the practice that will make you better. He does an awesome job explaining a plan here and I’ve been trying the Tour Tempo program the last few days which is very interesting.

Best Show I’ve Watched this Week

American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden | Official Trailer | Netflix

My brother recommended this to me. It's an incredible look at the long journey to capture Osama Bin Laden. There is some great behind the scenes George Bush and Obama footage that is a fascinating look at how focused they both were on getting to him and delivering justice post 9/11. Really got me fired up. Highly recommend, pretty quick, just 3 episodes, certainly worth the watch.

Nostalgic Athlete of the Week

This is probably as niche as I’ll go, but everytime someone talks about the greatest catches ever, nobody brings up Brandon Lloyd. This guy was a FREAK

I’ve been looking at receivers after the George Pickens trade and I think Brandon Lloyd is a decent comp for Pickens, he just caught everything. No matter the hand/body/ball position Brandon Lloyd would go get that thing.
