The Celtics may not be the Balls

I’m bummed about the Celtics. I’m the first to admit I’m a Bruins first winter guy, but once the Bruins reared their ugly head I turned to the C’s a little earlier than usual. They are so fun when they are cooking, but they look to have run out of mojo here down the stretch. Tatum getting hurt is a really killer. If he was healthy you’d still give them a chance to win the next 3 with 2 in Boston. Without him? I just don’t know they have a Batman when he’s not out there. Brown is great, but hasn’t been all world this playoffs, Porzingis missed two pretty clutch free throws last night that pushed the Knicks further from the Celtics and effectively ended the game.

They are a great team and hopefully Tatum isn’t too hurt that it would impact next year.

NFL Schedule Release

The Whole NFL Schedule release charade is so dumb.

Real Ball knowers know the opponents their team is playing already, the schedule is the dumbest thing to be concerned with in the NFL. Guys get hurt and by the fall you’re playing a completely different teams. I’m planning on going to Vegas for the Cowboys @ Raiders, so that will be a game I’m trying to get onto travel plans ASAP, but other than that, does it really matter in May? They hype it up to be like the Draft or something that has actual impact. Think about that 49ers Rams TNF game at the end of the year last year. They jacked that up like the Super Bowl in May, in reality, it was a total dumpster fire snoozer. I get they try to make it a year round league but just have Adam Schefter tweet out an excel in April and let’s get on with it.

Best Game I watched this week

Edmonton did a great job bouncing back from this last night. What a way to lose a game. To be moments away from going to OT 2-0 against a great team with a sweep opportunity in your own building on the line? I get why Skinner was so aggressive, but this was just such a good move from former Bruin Reilly Smith. The pause and patience with that little time left on the clock is really really impressive, and Leon had no option there, wrong place wrong time. I’m rooting for Edmonton to make it back to the Cup or at least to have a banger of a series with Dallas.

Podcast Episode of the Week

I’m a big fan of Scott Fawcett’s ideologies. He is a bit crass and a little bit of a hardo but his Golf strategy is the best of the best. He breaks down some key ways to improve your game without improving your swing. You’d be amazed how many shots you can save by incorporating his strategies. I used the distance from the edge of the green on every approach shot I can remember too, and his philosophies on putting are really helpful as well. He takes the guessing out of the game and when you’re playing competitively it allows you to swing freely and accept the results of the shot.

He takes the numbers and puts them right in your face. For example a PGA Pro Makes x% of putts from a certain distance, so a 5 handicap probably makes X-10% of those putts. A 10 footer or an 8 footer feels like a putt you should make but even a good roll doesn’t always go in, if you put the focus on the shot and not on the result, the results improve without you even noticing.

There’s a ton of good stuff on Tiger and how he goes about eliminate bad energy to handle himself on the course. It’s just such good stuff and good things to think about while you’re playing to avoid stacking bad shots.

Best Show I’ve Watched this Week

I’ve been waiting to get to it. And I finally did. I am a huge Nathan Fielder fan, and after finally completing the Righteous Gemstones (which is so goddamn awesome), I caught up on Season 2 of the Rehearsal. It is so perfectly Nathan and I cannot get enough.

I was actually bothered by the Summit Ice realization he had where Paramount Plus pulled the episode online. My buddies in college and I bought the Summit Ice Jackets when the original episode aired and wear it proudly to this day, if someone recognizes it they always say hi and it leads to a fun conversation about the show and the Holocaust, which was his goal.

For Context, Nathan launched Summit Ice when he found out Taiga, the brand he normally wore posted a remembrance honoring a well-known Holocaust Denier. He launched Summit Ice to spread awareness about the atrocities of the Holocaust and the issues Jews faced and still face today, while born out of a Nathan for You joking skit, his intentions were genuine and the impact has been pretty cool. Buy a Jacket here Summit Ice Apparel, I’ve had mine for a decade and it still looks and holds up great, and they donate 100% of their Profits to the Vancouver Holocaust Education Center and other causes that fight intolerence. Very nice jackets, very important cause.

The Rehearsal is one of the wildest TV concepts ever, where Nathan creates authentic replicas of real life scenes and has actors prepare to rehearse real life situations with Civilians. For Example on Episode 4 he took a Pilot who has trouble with his dating life, casted 15 actors to play him and go on a mock date, and then paired off 5 couples out of those actors to live out the hypothetical relationship following that date. It’s a crazy human experience, and his dry humor makes it so cringe that you cannot look away.

Episode 3 he fast tracked himself into living the life of Sully and then recreated the Sully crash to see how he may have felt in the moment. Just wild ridiculous stuff, but his heart is in the right place.

Nostalgic Song of the Week

No American Idol Recap but after the results last night I was reminded of the hilarious cut away’s from the 2000s where somebodies dreams would get annihilated and then immediately they hit the Piano on this song and show a montage as the person stands on stage with Ryan Seacrest trying to not to cry.

Also Simon Rocked

Nostalgic Athlete of the Week

Terp Legend. 7 year old me couldn’t believe he wasn’t Michael Jordan in the NBA. Love me some Steve Blake
