Pretty fired up to make it to 50 columns. I’ve had a lot of projects in the past that haven’t made it this far, and we are a week short of a full year’s worth of Tully Tuesday’s. Not every week is great, but I hope there have been a few articles that made you laugh and share with friends. This is a lot of fun for me and a nice reflective part of my week.

I spent the weekend on a Bachelor Party in Scottsdale, played some golf, went to the Waste Management and watched the Super Bowl by the pool.

We landed Thursday and immediately found out that 15 bags did not make it on the plane. Guess who didn’t get their golf bag? That’s right.

I went up to the counter and asked what was going on, they said they would bring the clubs later tonight and asked me if I was planning on coming back to pick them up, I responded “I was actually planning on playing golf with my clubs in about an hour so no.”

If you remember from last week, I had pledged to only buy two pairs of golf shoes this year, well, JetBlue forced my hand into pair number one, a clean set of FJ Premieres with the red white and blue striping. Fortunately, they have a pretty solid reimbursement policy and ate most of the cost of these bad boys, because I would never drop that kind of cash on Golf Shoes this early in the year. Played the round and had a funny ending where I finally understood where the golf announcers explain to you that it is much darker than it appears on TV. It was pitch black on 18 for us but looks like dusk.

Highly recommend Papago for a cheap round in Scottsdale. Checks all of the right boxes. And the rental clubs were brand new Pings that had just been taken out of the box, not bad.

Bag finally gets in at midnight. We go Friday am to pick them up, and my buddies bag had already been taken out for delivery. I got mine. I felt whole again. Played a beer round and snuck away to the Suns game in Phoenix for the night.

The Suns, and a lot of the smaller market teams have an interesting game day experience. It is very focused on having a good time and much less around the game. The Stadium is clean and open, there are 1000 concession stands and a lot of bars inside the stadium. At one point it was very easy to forget we were at an NBA game. Would recommend.

Saturday we went to the WM Open. I was expecting a bigger shit show than it actually was. I forgot my wallet at the apartment and was able to sell my extra ticket for some cash that I was able to use to fund my day alongside some Apple pay. After 12 I gave up on sending my friends to buy me some beers and walked right up and was able to buy drinks the rest of the day without my ID. Seems strange but I felt stupid for stressing once I realized I forgot my wallet considering I have a full beard and was wearing my wedding ring.

We went back to the house and had Hibachi in the backyard. Pretty fun and cheap way to have a great night.

All in all there were no fights, tears, or torrential downpours, successful weekend.

Now being in Arizona and it being bright outside may play a factor in this but the Super Bowl was pretty lame in my opinion. First off, the Eagles are so unlikeable that I feel like America has just moved on to next year already. Fine by me. They kicked the shit out of the Chiefs. They were on a real heater and kept it rolling. Good for Saquon Barkley and Parris Campbell. That’s about it.

I don’t know if it was Brady’s passive presence on the broadcast, or the lack of brightness in the SuperDome but the game just didn’t feel like the Super Bowl normally does to me.

You probably are seeing this take a lot and I can’t believe I’m here saying it. Patrick Mahomes is close to Tom Brady. Brady won 7 and lost 3, but even in those 3 losses he never lost like that. He was lost, Brady’s 3 losses he willed his teams into keeping those games close to the wire. The Chiefs had to have know they were going to have trouble blocking, and its seemed like they were fine leaving Mahomes to fend for himself back there. He didn’t have it, and until he surpassed that 7 total let’s pump the brakes on the comparisons.

I rooted against Tom Brady in every Super Bowl except the second Eagles game. I wanted them to lose every week, he was different than any other Quarterback and had total control. There is not another Quarterback in the history of the NFL who played as well and as consistently as he did, particularly at the highest stages of the game. Dak Prescott plays well with a lead and good blocking, Matthew Stafford too, Matt Ryan did, Jay Cutler. I’m not saying Mahomes is in that tier, he is still undisputedly the best Quarterback in the NFL, but he has serious work to do and his record is scathed enough that its gonna take 8 or 9 to be clear of Brady.

Thanks for reading see you next week for our one year anniversary.

Til Next week,
